Three Good Reasons to Get That Gym Membership

One of the most commonly made New Year's resolutions is to start a workout routine.

We all know that eating healthy foods and exercising are important, but with the demands of daily life, we can find ourselves pushing our fitness goals off to the back burner.

If you want to start working out regularly, you have to create space for it in your life and daily schedule. You can choose to allot a set amount of time in the early morning, on your lunch break, or in the late afternoon to spend exercising. This time can be a daily routine or something you choose to do a few times a week. However, once you set that time, be very careful to protect it! If you have to miss your workout due to uncontrollable circumstances, just make sure you catch back up the next day!

One good way to keep yourself on track with your fitness goals and help you stay motivated is to join a gym. Many gyms now offer low monthly payments, no contracts so you don't have to worry about missing a payment, and even free weekly trials so you know what you are paying for before you sign-up. With all of these options, getting a gym membership is easier today than ever!

I've listed below three good reasons that you should get off the fence, and join a gym!

Gyms offer a wide variety of ways to work out.
If you choose the same activity each day for your exercise routine, you can easily get bored and worn out! I've found that the best way to stay engaged in your workout routine is to switch things up! Most gyms have a wide variety of classes you can take as well as many different exercise machines you can use like treadmills, stair climbers, and weight lifting machines. The classes usually range from thirty minutes to two hours, and include such activities as bike riding, dancing, doing aerobics, Yoga and Pilates. Most gyms have schedules with their weekly classes listed. Mark your calendar with a spin class every Monday and a Zumba class every Friday! A gym near you may also have an indoor or outdoor swimming pool. Swimming a few laps or simply treading water can be a great way to get your heart beating, and it's also a great way to throw some variety into your workout routine!

At a gym you can be motivated by friends or by other people.
Now that you've decided that you need to make fitness a bigger priority in your life, the gym is a great place to get some much needed motivation! At a gym, you will be surrounded by others with similar goals. Seeing their commitment and dedication to exercise can help inspire you to keep your workout routine going. You can also encourage friends to join with you or bring them as a guest if your gym allows it. The gym gives you a chance to get out with other people and do something fun and productive!

Gyms can give you that much needed "me" time.
While you have the opportunity to spend time talking with friends or being energized by a group class, you can also find some quiet and alone time. Most gyms have certified child care professionals to watch your kids if you are a parent.  They also have many fun sports activities for older kids. As a mother, I know that having quiet time to work out alone at home is almost impossible without the help of a spouse. Gyms give you an opportunity to unwind and de-stress from a long day while knowing your kids are playing and having fun in the next room.

There are many great reasons to take your fitness routine to the next level and get a gym membership. Adding variety, motivation, independence and fun to your life are just a few of the things they provide and they are also a great way to increase the likeliness that you will achieve your fitness goals!
